Weekend DIY | Fabric Tape and Stickers

Welcome to the new feature!! As you know i have already posted many tutorials on the blog but i thought it was about time to organise my posts!! This weekend DIY Feature features DIY tutorials from many fabulous bloggers and some I make myself if i have the time!!

Todays DIY is for making your own fabric tape and stickers! Although you do need a few supplies..

"If you’ve ever bought something from me, you may have seen my package from me in the mail with fabric tape on the outside of the package. You may not know I don’t buy that anywhere, I make it myself! Here I’ll show you how. It’s super easy, I promise.

Supplies

  1. Ribbon, fabric strips, punched circles or other shapes
  2. Xyron sticker machine – 1.5″
  3. Extra refill for when you have too much fun and run out of the first roll
Total Cost – about $8 for the sticker machine to get started, then about $0.25/ft depending on the type of ribbon or other scraps you use. My WalMart sells the machines and refills in the craft section, so I just grab one every so often with groceries.

Cut strips of fabric or lengths of ribbon and feed them gently through the sticker machine, pulling the other end through to the left as shown below. For thin ribbons, do a couple at a time to make the most of your sticker tape.

Pull the end and tear off the tape.

Now, using a bone folder or other flat hard tool (the butt of a screwdriver or a ruler will work too), press and rub the top of the tape to secure the glue. You’ll need to press a little more for fabric and thicker ribbon, like the twill tape.

Peel off the top clear layer and you’re done! You can use lots of different things in your sticker machine. My favorite is twill ribbon, but I also like this double sided wrapping paperric rac is really quick and easy too. And you could even get some of my printable papers and and cut strips or shapes from those to make stickers!
In the photo below you’ll also see kraft circles. These were really popular in my shop but I got tired of making so many of them all the time. To make them yourself, just get some brown shipping paper from the office supply store and punch some circles and feed those through your sticker machine!

The great thing about the Xyron machine is that you can do a roll of tape as long as you need. The tape cartridges go to 20 feet! You can also get two kinds of tape – permanent and removable. The removable adhesive is better for kids in case they stick it somewhere they shouldn’t. I bought AJ a sticker machine and removable refills for her birthday last year and she loves them.

Now you can cut your tape into shapes if you like, and adhere to anything you like.
