Art Journal Resources | Classes To Improve Lettering

So... where do I begin! At christmas I got a manual typewriter and decided to write more letters...which I blogged about here. After breaking all my nails I decided the hand written letters were the way to go but my handwriting was like chicken scratches so I went looking... I remembered about Lorie Vliegens class cuz I stalk her blog regularly and LOVE her writing in all of her journal pages. The class was $30 and it was fantastic. My writing was improved within a matter of days although I did practice A LOT. And I've kept practicing in a notebook... but the results impressed me ^_^ Im so modest!

I will show you all my writing practice below but Ive done it in photographs from my phone so they aren't the best quality! The next class I took was Doodle 101 with Stephanie Ackerman. Now.. I thought this was a doodle class..... because I wanted to learn to doodle but nope... It was doodle lettering. It was $10 and lots of fun and I learnt another style of writing so I was dead chuffed (happy).

The above are examples of Stephanie Ackermans lettering and now below are all my writing since I became a lettering superstar :p

These pages were done after I did Stephanie Ackermans Class obviously.. I have mixed in Cursive which i learnt through letter lab and doodle through Stephanies class.

I thought I had come up with this phrase myself but no.. I had seen it on Dawn Devries Skol blog and then forgot all about it but the phrase stuck in my mind obviously :p This book only had 6 or 7 painted pages in it so I plan on using it for Kikki K Journal prompts. although its februray now and I've only done 3. :s

(The first one is my name)
There are examples of my cursive writing all over the show and letter lab is the best class for improving your writing if you don't like what you have already. If I hadn't done the letter lab before I did doodle101 I don't think I would have been able to create such good letters as I had kind of forgotten the basics really about letter strokes and shape if that makes sense. There are many free tutorials out there and practice worksheets for improving your handwriting so don't feel you need to pay for a class but I am so glad I did. Lories class was all video so it was really easy to follow and in it you learn how to create gorgeous writing!

These are a few images of my practice book and working on other fonts! I try to write in it loads. This also came about because I wanted to fill up my bajillions of notebooks lol. Which I have blogged about here too :p

Lots of love Claire xo
