The beautiful thing about having an attic room is the amount of light that can come through your ceiling. When I first left home, I moved into a shared house with two friends. Of course, I demanded a craft room and agreed with the guys that I would take the smallest bedroom. I loved that room. It was compact and bijou, I was able to decorate it the way I wanted (apart from the carpet) and I loved standing on my bed and looking out the ceiling window when it snowed or when there was a fireworks display in the city centre.
Are you looking for attic room inspiration?
Today was the perfect day to share a couple of beautiful attic rooms that I discovered and show you what’s possible if you put your mind to it.
Can you see what I mean about the light?
The First Great Idea: Let The Light In
If you live in a grey country like Ireland or Scandinavia, it’s a great idea to use white paint and white furniture to allow the light to bounce throughout the room and make it appear much larger than it actually is.
Great Idea #2: Use White Furniture To Ensure Lots of Light
Don’t forget to install some blackout blinds on those windows or you’ll never get to sleep. Installing a black out blind was the best thing I ever did in that bedroom of mine.
Great Idea #3: Use low height storage options underneath windows
This is possibly my favourite attic room because I’m head over heels in love with the day bed and DIY canopy. Not only that, there is so much natural lighting and excellent storage options. In my shared house, I had to get very crafty with my Ikea storage options and baskets. Ideally, there would have been under bed storage. I remember sitting in bed and designing the dream version of how that bedroom would have looked. I’ve done that for as long as I can remember, no matter the room. Although when I was younger, I wanted the bedroom from Clarissa explains it all and her walk in wardrobes.
Great Idea #4: Use Built In Cupboards
There are built in cupboards along the side of the wall and the canopy is a beautiful idea to add a little shabby elegance to this room.
Great Idea #5 Use A Unique Flooring Idea!
The floor is laid in a rather unusual manner and I think it looks rather marvellous. It’s a white wash wood which does wonders for keeping a room light and bright.
It’s possible to make a small attic room look much larger than it actually is, or you can turn the entire attic into one large open plan space. Strategic colour choices and storage furniture are essential if you want to have your dream attic room.
