What Makes You Special? #DifferenceMakesUs Etsy Campaign
I was very excited when I saw that Etsy had launched a new campaign #DifferenceMakesUs. What an excellent opportunity to play a little ‘getting to know you‘ game!
When I was brainstorming how I could share the news of the campaign I had a tough time trying to figure out what one thing could be used to describe what makes me, me.
It was impossible.
You’re going to have something in common with someone else. It suddenly hit me; it’s the particular collection of idiosyncrasies that make you, you!
I decided we could explore the things that make us unique and all appreciate us a little bit more.
What makes up a person’s character? I’m a self-confessed crazy cat lady and the little cat face featured in the header image is a pet portrait by Megan Wells. It would be a fabulous gift for me! The fact that I like cats isn’t the only thing that makes up my personality. It’s:
- My signature style
- Happiness and attitude
- My gender
- Humour and
- Beliefs and Spirituality
Of course, your personality isn’t complete with the elements listed above. They’re the character traits we are exploring today!
What is your Signature Style? For me, it’s florals and pastels. I decided to hunt Etsy for a brand that is instantly recognisable that would fit within my personal style. Liberty of London products are instantly internationally recognisable!
I got very excited to see that they had teamed up with one of my favourite brands, Meri Meri to create a fantastic range of party supplies!
They all looks gorgeous, don’t they?!
Happiness and Attitude
Whether or not you are happy will obviously contribute to your perspective on life. Keeping a gratitude journal is a fabulous tool to reflect on your life really and has been proven to help with mental health.
The journals offered by Awesome Ends In Me are rather excellent. Shown above is the grown up version of the gratitude journal but there’s a fabulous version for kids too! Check out my favourite journals in this mini slideshow – right click and open the products in a new tab in your browser.
How Creative Are You?
There are many potential creative skills out there. Our various hobbies and skill sets are unique to us. Some people are good with their hands, they’re good with planning, maybe a bit of a perfectionist and their crafts or projects go towards a unique set of skills.
Does being clumsy count as a skill?
That gold felt is going to be one of my next purchases and I don’t know what I’m making yet, but I know my Cricut machine will be involved!

I am a clumsy crafter who is not a perfectionist at all. Have you tried almost every craft there is? Since I discovered the crafting universe back in 2009, I set about to try virtually every craft at least once.
Of course, there have been some I’ve ruled out due to access to tools and time, etc. , but I’ve tried A LOT. One of my goals was to try at least one new craft a year and then it became about five because I loved making things!
I love setting a goal, and I love that printable goal setting kit by DesignIsYay! I purchased this kit in January 2015, and I’ve been using it since. It’s printed, punched and in my planner.
Our goals in life can be similar, but none are ever identical. People are motivated by different things; money, happiness, love, etc. The goals you make can direct you on your unique path!
Taste can be applied in two ways to what we are talking about; tasting with your mouth and what you like.
Everyone experiences flavour differently. Some experience a lot of flavour when eating a meal, while maybe a smoker wouldn’t.
That can apply to smells too. I’ve included this spiced apple candle because we are entering Autumn and I adore the smells and atmosphere of the season. I can picture it all now, cold ground, cold nose, wrapped up in chunky sweaters, my home smelling like spiced apple and feeling a nip in the air!
Flavours and smells can instantly transport you, and the ones you like are not necessarily unique to you, but the combination would be.
Your taste could include the clothes you like to wear, the music you like to listen to or even where you like to buy your groceries!

Beliefs and Spirituality
What you believe is what you perceive to be true based on what you have experienced. Your beliefs about everything are never going to match another person 100%, which is why they will indeed make you unique.
Whether or not you believe that eating animals is wrong, if you believe in God, how you believe someone should behave or how what you think is wrong is all unique to you.
I included these gorgeous pink quartz mala beads because I believe in the power of meditation.
Of course, your sex will contribute to your unique attributes. You could be a tall woman who doesn’t appear to be very feminine (scruff ball with paint on her clothes) and has a house that is full of pink! *cough*
She Believed She Could, So She Did wooden panel. This is one of my favourite quotes ever. I find it very motivational indeed.
What you find funny is a definitely unique quality. I love Tina Fey, and indeed, Bitches get stuff done.
What we find humorous often relates to what we have experienced and how we perceive life. I LOVE to watch stand up comedy. My current favourite comedy shows on Netflix are the american Office. I know I’m late to the party, but I’m so glad I started watching it. It’s hilarious. And I feel very sorry for my neighbours because my laugh is annoying!
What is your favourite comedy show?
Now that you’ve seen some of the elements that make you who you are, tell me what your unique qualities are, please. I won’t think you’re big headed. Pinky promise.
