Watercolours
One of the fan favourites in the hand lettering community is the ability to use watercolours. Watercolours are soft yet still vibrant. There are so many ways to utilise colour in hand lettering that wasn’t previously used.
Luckily, there are plenty of pens out there that help you to write in different colours by simply filling the reserve with different colours so that your strokes change colour as you complete lines.
The hand lettering can get even more interesting when you use watercolours to decorate your words.
From flowers to colourful gradients, it spices up your writing and words because it highlights the importance of different designs.

Once you feel right about one, use your fountain pen to etch out the beginnings of an inspirational print to hang in your home or office.
Photos
Bring back to life some old photos you have tucked away. If you have some images that you have multiple copies of or aren’t particularly impressive, practice your hand lettering on them.
You can add some text, borders or illustrations over the top of them and sell them.
If you don’t have a picture you’re okay with writing on, you can photocopy it first and practice on a draft before you make a final selection.
It’s a fun way to put more emphasis on specific photos and create a lasting memory out of something simple.
