If you have been searching how to make macarons because you’re a Laudre obsessive, I am too. So much so, that I want to make my bathroom look like the inside of their Parisian store. I’m a long way off, but this little Macaron project is a good start.
The reason I chose Sugru was that I had a ceramic light pull which would swing after the light was turned on and I managed to smash it into smithereens. Sugru bounces perfectly so I know it’s going to last forever! When I discovered Sugru and all of the projects that you can make with it...I did a lot of swearing and "no way!", "that's amazing!", "omg can we do this?" while pointing at things to Mr Heart Handmade. I was SO impressed that I instantly came up with about 30 improvements to my home, mostly in the garden because it's weatherproof!!!
Ready To Learn How To Make Macarons?
The Supplies You Will Need:
- Sugru in 3 colours:
White x 5 (to mix with red and blue to make lilac)
+ 2 more white for the centre of the macaroon (7 white in total)
Red x 1
Blue x 1 - The cheapest option is to purchase a pack of classic colours and a pack of eight whites.
- Lid of a dress maker's pencil (with plastic bristles)
- An Awl
- Light Pull Cord
- Washi tape (sticky tape will work])
- Tiny bit of oil (to make it easier to work with on surfaces and hands but not too much or you change the chemical make up of the Sugru and make it less effective).

What Is Sugru?
Sugru is magical! No doubt, I will more than likely end up repeating myself.
"Sugru is a self-setting rubber for fixing, modifying and making things. It bonds to almost anything. Apply it, shape it and it turns into a strong, flexible, waterproof rubber overnight"
We are so excited to be working with Sugru, I cannot even tell you how excited I am with this product! I've already fixed electric cables and a bread bin lid! I have 11 more projects coming up and I can't wait to get started! I've already started working on project number 2!!
You can use it to fix pipes, hang planters outside (pretty much anywhere), you can fix shoes, customise cables, add feet to planters, fix it to kitchen cupboards so you can slot your iPad in there for reading recipes or watching Youtube while you cook... like I said... magical. How To Make Macarons:
How To Change The Colour Of Sugru:
Take five packets of white, the red and the blue and mix it all together. It will take a while and a lot of work. Your hands may cramp up, but it’s worth it. You can give your hands a rest by dipping them in hot water.
How To Make Macarons (the sandwich part)
- Roll the lilac Sugru into a ball, then roll into a sausage. If you roll it into a ball first, it means that your sausage shape will be even. Divide the sausage in two and roll each piece into a ball.
- Grab one piece and press down. Don’t press it too flat as you will flatten it again after you assemble everything. It’s okay if it’s a bit too tall right now.
- Grab your awl and hold it steady.
- Get the patty style shape and roll it against the awl to create a little lip. Then you can go back and add a little lip over the edge of your awl again.
Lay the little patty flat and use the small plastic bristle brush to create the textured edge. - Repeat the process on the other side.
How To Make The Macarons Filling
- Then grab the two white packets and create the centre.
- Roll it into a ball and then flatten.
- The easiest way to create a hole in the centre was to pierce the awl (coated in a little oil) through the centre of the ball and flatten. That ensures everything remains in the middle. Make sure the filling doesn’t go over the edge of your macaroon.
Assemble:
- Get the little plastic cap and score the underside of both macaroon pieces, then the top and bottom of the filling. That’s a little trick I learnt when my dad was helping to tile my kitchen. It helps everything adhere in the most effective way possible.
- Flatten your pieces together and leave for 24 hours.
Almost at the Finish Line:
- Grab the light pull cord and a strip of washi tape that is longer than the macaroon. Twist it around the bottom of the cord so you can feed it through the hole you created.
- Feed the cord through and tie a knot in the bottom. Reattach it to your bathroom lighting system et voila!
Unfortunately, there are only two more cords in my home, but I will be making more macarons in even more colours. Not to mention fitting some shelves to create my very own patisserie. Now that you know how to make macarons, you can make as many as many as you like and create a beautiful bakery without the temptation or the calories. for more inspiration and 10% off your first order head to Sugru.com, seriously, that stuff is magical!!!
