We all need things that will stimulate our mind. Not only that, but a hobby can give us some goals to work towards that don’t necessarily involve work. That’s why we wanted to take the opportunity to share some insanely simple woodworking projects for beginners!
The great thing about woodworking is that it’s not just a fun, physical activity. It’s also something that you can see and use the results of.
You can actually make things from scratch that you will find yourself using in your day-to-day life or that you can decorate your house with.
But of course, you won’t be amazing at it straight off the bat. You will have to start slow and easy.
3 Insanely Simple Woodworking Projects For Total Beginners!
Here are three simple DIY woodworking projects to get started with this hobby in 2019:
Wooden Boxes via Instructables
You can never have enough uses for a nice set of wooden boxes. These ones are small enough to fit pretty much anywhere.
So you could use them for things like photographs, cutlery or jewellery, and if you have somewhere secure to store it you could even use these boxes for money too.
Eventually, if you want to get the best out of this hobby you will have to invest in some of the more complex tools. And if you have them for this project it would probably go a little smoother but they’re not necessary. For when that time comes, here’s a nice guide to those tools from Woodwork Boss.
Back to the boxes though, you only need a little bit of wood for it. Four pieces of 1×4 should do the trick. You’ll need some wood glue and some screws for it too.
Cutting Board via Family Handyman
Another great project that’s not only really useful but is also super easy to make and can be done in one day.
The great thing about this that sets it apart from a lot of the cutting boards you’d actually buy is the handles you can build onto it.
These allow for it to double as a serving tray too. It’s also really easy to clean so you can switch between chopping and serving with ease.
You’ll need a jigsaw, and orbital saw and a miter saw and you will also need a good drill with a variety of drill bits.
Most of this particular project is assembling the cut pieces of wood together, which is not too difficult, especially if you’re using a clamp.
The tricky part can be putting the handle together and wedging that properly into the other parts of the board.
These days, many of us will spend a lot of time with our laptops actually physically on our laps. Which despite their name, isn’t really what they’re designed for.
Having your laptop resting on top of your legs is actually kind of bad for you. You’re exposing yourself to the heat of the laptop and you’re either going to strain your back or your neck.
This laptop stand will help eliminate that problem. It also folds up nice and small and it’s really easy to store too.
I can’t impress upon you how minor of a project this actually is. The legs might look tricky but it’s just a matter of connecting three small pieces of wood together.
And then they will screw really easily into the main board too. That’s easy in itself to make, you just join two boards together using a biscuit joint.
And this is only just the beginning. These projects are a great way to ease you into woodworking and they are fun and rewarding to make.
Things will only go up from here too. You’ll develop some valuable skills that you can put to use in those more challenging projects in the future.
